Flex Fuel

Flex Fuel refers to a fuel system that allows an engine to run on a blend of gasoline and ethanol, typically ranging from regular pump gas (E10) to high-ethanol content fuels like E85 (85% ethanol, 15% gasoline). An ECU with flex-fuel tuning automatically adjusts fuel delivery, ignition timing, and other parameters based on the ethanol content detected by a flex-fuel sensor. Ethanol-rich fuels like E85 offer higher octane, allowing for increased performance and power in tuned engines, but they also require more fuel volume due to ethanol’s lower energy density.
